How to Say I Love You in Japanese
So, you have met a super Japanese girl and you would like to tell her I love you in Japanese or even question if she likes you or to let her know she is cute. You’ve tried in English and inevitably she just isn’t understanding. Occasionally the language of the heart can be hard even when you speak the same language. How can you let this super Japanese girl know exactly what you’re feeling?
You’re going to find that while Japanese speech is hard for Americans, it’s actually pretty easy to at least learn some useful phrases which you can use to impress your Japanese girlfriend. And when you use these phrases, even if not pronounced perfectly, your Japanese lady will be amazed that you have gone ahead and learned her language.
Here are some phrases of love that will go a long way in letting your woman know how you are feeling and determining how she feels. Don’t allow the spoken language barrier block the language of the heart.
Ai shite ru (愛しています) – I love you (Japanese will rarely say this)
Dai suki desu (私が好き) – I really like you (This is much more common)
Anata o muchu nano (私はあなたに夢中だ) – I’m crazy about you
[person name]-san wa totemo kirei desu (あなたはとても美しいです) – You are very beautiful
totemo kawaii desu (あなたはとてもかわいいです) – You are very cute
Anata wa watashi o shiawase na kibun ni naru (あなたは私を幸せな気分になる。) – You make me happy
anataga koishii (あなたが恋しい) – I miss you
Boku no koto suki (あなたは私ですか) – Do you like me?
kareshi ha imasuka (彼氏はいますか) – Do you have a boyfriend?
Gaaru furendo ni natte kuremasenka (あなたが私の恋人される) – Will you be my girlfriend?
Boku to soto ni ikanai (一緒に外出しますか) – Do you want to go out with me?
kisu shitai (キスしたい) – Can I kiss you?
Note on “You are my sweetheart”, “sweetheart” or similar words – There is no direct translation for sweetheart. The Japanese people do not show a lot of emotion or romantic feelings so a lot of those types of sayings like sweetheart, honey, etc have no translation in Japanese as those sayings just don’t exist. Japanese just don’t show or say those kind of feelings towards each other. Some younger people are starting to but they use the English words because there is no Japanese for it.
That’s all for right now, I’ll be posting more useful phrases for Japanese dating and Japanese love phrases later so you can speak of matters of the heart more easily with your Japanese lady. Please tell me if there’s anything specific you are curious about.
